Description:

This is a contract role through Magnit for Consumers Energy in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This role is hybrid 3 days to either Grand Rapids, Michigan or Jackson, Michigan (whichever is closer for the candidate)

Responsibilities:

Coordinate all phases of utility construction projects, from initial scheduling through final completion.

Work closely with construction crews, field supervisors, engineers, and contractors to ensure work is executed safely and efficiently.

Develop, maintain, and update construction schedules; track progress and adjust timelines as needed.

Facilitate pre‑construction planning, including material readiness, permitting status, and crew assignments.

Monitor field activities to ensure adherence to utility standards, construction specifications, and regulatory requirements.

Serve as a communication hub between project management, field operations, procurement, and customer stakeholders.

Track construction milestones, document work completed, and support close‑out activities such as as‑built documentation and final inspections.

Assist with resolving field issues, coordinating outages, and escalating delays or risks to project leadership.

Maintain accurate project records, including daily reports, change orders, material usage, and contractor invoices.

Support safety initiatives by ensuring crews have required information, clearances, and documentation before work begins.

Requirements:

Strong understanding of utility construction processes, including underground/overhead distribution, gas or electric line work, or civil construction.

Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, utility maps, work packages, and job prints.

Excellent coordination and communication skills for working with field crews, contractors, and internal teams.

Proficiency with scheduling tools and project management software; strong Excel and documentation skills.

Ability to anticipate construction needs, identify potential conflicts, and proactively support field teams.

Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple active jobs simultaneously.

Problem‑solving mindset with the ability to adapt to changing field conditions.

Knowledge of safety protocols, utility standards, and regulatory requirements is highly valued.

Comfortable working in both office and field environments.

Education:

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering Technology, Project Management, or a related field.

Equivalent experience in utility construction coordination, field operations, or contractor management may be accepted.

Industry certifications (e.g., OSHA 10/30, CAPM, PMP, or utility‑specific training) are beneficial but not required.

 

Hourly Pay Rate Range (dependent on location, experience, expectation)

The pay range that Magnit reasonably expects to pay for this position is: $ 45.41-$60.7/1hr
