This is a contract role through Magnit for Consumers Energy located in Jackson, Michigan. This role is ONLY for candidates currently residing in Michigan. The role may be remote from your home in Michigan but does require 25% travel to lower Peninsula of Michigan.
Department Summary:
Project Engineering provides engineering leadership for all Energy Resources (ER) projects, including renewables, hydro, coal generation, gas generation and gas compression and storage. Project types can vary from new generation and environmental to plant modifications and maintenance. The department consists of a multidiscipline group of project engineers to support ER Projects. Employees in this department provide leadership, sound engineering judgement, organizational skills and clear communication to coordinate successful completion of a project Scope of Work. The Civil Engineer will be involved in several projects and to varying degrees of involvement.
Job Description/Responsibilities:
The Civil Engineer will work in the Project Engineering Department in Energy Resources and will support Consumers Energy’s power generation and natural gas compression facilities for the discipline of civil engineering. The Civil Engineer works in a team setting in the role of lead and/or support engineer for engineering projects within Consumers Energy .The Civil Engineer will perform moderately complex assignments requiring application of standard techniques, theory, procedures and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related engineering tasks. The candidate must independently evaluate, select, and apply engineering theory, techniques, procedures and criteria, using judgment in making adaptations and modifications. The Civil Engineer will be required to work efficiently and effectively on small and large project teams reporting to several Project Managers.This position is primarily focused on structural engineering, but candidate should have some knowledge of the principles of geotechnical, hydrostatics, hydromechanics, and environmental engineering. Application of the following personal skills and abilities is expected for this role: self-motivation, analytical, communication and interpersonal, leadership, organizational, problem solving, and troubleshooting. A willingness, and the ability, to accept and adapt to changing priorities due to emergent work or outages is a must. The Civil Engineer must be able to tolerate a heavy industrial environment. Coal plants present many loud, hot, and dusty locations; while areas of gas compression plants can be loud, hot, and oily. The Civil Engineer should able to climb stairs and/or fixed ladders to elevated platforms, able to enter/crawl-into small/tight spaces (access hatches), and be able to walk a rough construction grade as required.
Requirements:
• Professional Engineer (PE) license
• Working knowledge of Civil/Structural codes, including, but not limited to: IBC/MBC, AISC Steel Construction Manual, ACI 318, AWS D1.1, and ASCE 7.
• Experience with structural engineering software such as (or similar to): RISA3d, SAP2000, EnerCalc, STAAD, MathCad, SPMats, SPW911, L-Pile, etc.
• Previous design experience with building and non-building structures
• Experience coordinating and developing contract documents, specifically engineering drawings and technical specifications for both consulting and construction services
Education:
Bachelor’s Engineering degree from an ABET accredited program; ideally in Civil / Structural Engineering
Hourly Pay Rate Range (dependent on location, experience, expectation)
The pay range that Magnit reasonably expects to pay for this position is: $50-$60/hr
