This is a contract role through Magnit Global for Consumers Energy in Jackson, Michigan.
Job Overview:
The Project / Program Manager will:
- Support execution of the Substation Capital Investment Program under the direction of the Principal Program Manager.
- Manage a portfolio of substation capital projects and work orders at various stages of development and execution.
- Develop and maintain integrated program schedules, forecasts, and execution plans.
Coordinate activities across Engineering, Construction, Operations, Supply Chain, Environmental, Real Estate, Protection & Controls, and external stakeholders. - Facilitate project planning, readiness reviews, stage-gate reviews, and execution meetings.
- Monitor scope, schedule, cost, quality, and risk performance across assigned projects.
- Identify and manage project and program risks, issues, constraints, and mitigation plans.
- Support annual capital planning, monthly forecasting, and budget reconciliation activities.
- Validate financial forecasts and provide ongoing reconciliation of project resources and expenditures.
- Develop executive-level reports, KPI dashboards, and performance metrics.
- Lead project and program communications throughout the project lifecycle.
- Coordinate outage planning, construction readiness, material availability, resource planning, and commissioning activities.
- Support portfolio governance, change management, and compliance requirements.
- Present project and program updates to leadership teams and stakeholders.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve forecasting accuracy, schedule performance, stakeholder coordination, and overall program execution.
The selected candidate must have:
- 5 or more years of experience in project management, program management, engineering, construction management, utility operations, or related business functions.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously within a complex portfolio environment.
- Strong project and program management skills including scope, schedule, cost, risk, and stakeholder management.
- Planning, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Strong verbal, written, presentation, facilitation, and negotiation skills.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively across departments to resolve issues, influence outcomes, and achieve business objectives.
- Experience developing and maintaining schedules, forecasts, budgets, and performance metrics.
- Ability to analyze complex data and communicate findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to earn stakeholder trust, influence without authority, and manage competing priorities.
- Experience presenting project and program information to senior leadership.
- Working knowledge of project controls, risk management, and capital investment governance.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification.
- Experience supporting electric transmission, distribution, or substation infrastructure projects.
- Experience managing large capital investment portfolios.
- Experience with Primavera P6, SAP, Power BI, or other project controls systems.
- Familiarity with utility regulatory requirements, capital planning processes, and grid modernization initiatives.
- Demonstrated success managing schedule, cost, and execution risks on complex projects.
- Experience coordinating work involving large customers, municipalities, contractors, or regulatory agencies.
Education:
The selected candidate must have:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, Finance, Project Management, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
Hourly Pay Rate Range (dependent on location, experience, expectation)
- The pay range that Magnit reasonably expects to pay for this position is: $33.75 /hour - $45.00/hour W-2.
